Alcon Total30 Contact Lens Box

Alcon Total30 Contact Lens Review

Are you looking for a monthly contact lens with brand new, innovative technology? Are you interested in a contact that stays moist for an entire month? If so, then you are probably looking for Aclon's brand new Total30 monthly contact lens. Total30 hit the market in September 2021 and is full of a lot of exciting new technology.

Celligent Design that Mimics Your Eyes

One of the coolest innovations in Total30 is the Celligent design. The surface of your eye is made up of special cells that create a gel like tecture. The surface of Total30 is designed to mimic those special cells. Since the lens surface is design just like your corneal cells, it actually pushes away external items like lipids and bacteria. This keeps your contacts healthy all month long!

Water Gradient Tech Keeps Total30 Moist

Alcon introduced the Water Gradient technology in their Dailies Total1 product. This is a unique lens design that helps pull water into the edges of the contact lens, ensuring the lens stays moist all day long. In the new Total30, Alcon has improved the Water Gradient technology so it lasts all month long.

According to a study that Alcon conducted, their water gradient tech keeps the Total30 lenses moist for over 2 times as long as other monthly lenses.

What is the Difference between Total30 and Dailies Total1?

If you are familiar with Alcon's Dailies Total1, you may know that product also features the Water Gradient technology. Although both of these contacts contain that same technology and have similar names, they're actually quite different.

To start, they are made of completely different materials. Total1 is made of delefilcon and Total30 is made of lehfilcon. Total1 is designed to only last one day of wear and cannot be reused. Total30 is designed to keep moisture for an entire month. Despite the similarities, these two contact lenses are not interchangable.

Parameters

For now, Total30 only comes in one base curve (8.4) and one diameter (14.2). Alcon may choose to make this product available in more base curves or diameters in the future.

Total30 has sphere powers from -12.00 all the way to +8.00. That range should cover most people wearing spherical contact lenses.

Does Total30 come in Toric for Astigmatism?

Yes, Total30 for Astigmatism was launched in December 2022. It has all the same great technology as the regular Total30, but it is designed for astigmatism. The available astigmatism options are pretty broad, so it should cover most people. Since it is a new product, expect shipments for this astigmatism lens to take a little bit longer. Right now, it is selling for $74.99 per box.

Does Total30 come in Multifocal for Presbyopia?

Yes, Total30 is launching a Multifocal version on October 1st, 2023. It will be available at doctors nationwide, as well as at online retailers. The recommend retail price for doctors is $115 per box, but we will sell it for $94.99 per box!

Pricing

Total30 is a brand new contact lens, so it is a little bit pricier than older contact lenses on the market. However, with the new technology in this lens that price difference is worth it! Most doctors are selling Total30 for around $65-$75 for a 6-pack. Online, you can get a 6-pack of Total30 for only $58.98 plus free shipping!

Pros and Cons

Pros

I’ve tried them all – Biofinity, Biofinity Energys (0 difference between the two), Avaira Vitality (gives me headaches from time to time), Miru 1 month and dailies, B&L Ultra, Air Optix night and day aqua, Acuvue Oasys and eventually these TOTAL30 by Alcon.

At first when you put them in they’re really comfortable, you can’t feel them AT ALL they’re really as advertised – best feeling on the eye out of all on the market, but for me the vision isn’t stable throughout the day and they do get extremely dry suddenly, out of nowhere. I don’t know why some people can’t get them out though, they’re the same as any other lens in that regard. As with all lenses, maybe do not try to take them out after a hot bath, it’s impossible :D

For me personally, the best ones currently are B&L Ultra, they do get dry also, tend to tear after long physical activity (probably I need to lubricate them more) but the vision is stable and clear, no headaches or any other discomfort besides sometimes drying which they all do.

All in all, there are no perfect lenses.

Unfortunately, I have nothing good to say about these contact lenses. Have worn Biofinity for years…eye doctor recommended Total 30 as an option. Worst contact ever…dries eyes out after 4 or 5 hours…not able to wear all day. Switched back to Biofinity…sticking with Biofinity.

I just purchased a year’s worth of these contacts at the recommendation of my eye doctor. I’m still wearing the trial pair he gave me, so they’re only about a week old. About 4 days in, I started having foggy vision, especially around bright lights, where it looks like a foggy rainbow. I called my doctor’s office and they said they haven’t heard of this issue but will order me a new trial pair just in case I received a defective pair. Luckily, I haven’t opened any of the new boxes, so I can return/exchange them if the new trial pair does something similar.

Wow the comments/reviews for this new Total 30 contacts are quite negative. I’d still like to see and will review more feedback and later this year I will try to trial them. It’s quite surprising since Total Dailies 1 has overwhelming positive reviews for comfort & moisture and I would’ve thought the new Total 30 monthlies would be quite similar.

I’d also like to know for those who’ve tried Total 30 – have you also tried their Total Dailies 1 and how do they compare? Yes the Total Dailies 1 are tricky to remove at the end of the day – though I found them very comfortable & moist, they’re slippery to handle and feel more sticky to the eye and thus more challenging to remove at the end of the day.

Just want to confirm what many of the other reviews are saying! Just switched to these from Alcon Airoptix & am so disappointed (will be switching back) … these completely dry my eyes out after a few hours & are so uncomfortable and annoying.
